Brandon University: English test requirements

Brandon University publishes one table of test scores with nearly identical undergraduate and graduate columns, and every applicant must meet one of 12 ways of showing English proficiency. Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing set a higher IELTS-only requirement, and individual graduate programmes may ask for more.

Checked on 2 Nov 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

All applicants must show English proficiency regardless of citizenship. Other routes include three years of study taught in English, Grade 12 English at 70 per cent, IB HL English or AP English at 4, set school-leaving exam grades, a degree taught in English, or Brandon's EAP Tier 4 (the page says EAP is not accepting applications for Fall 2027 or Winter 2028). IELTS One Skill Retake results are accepted. For Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing, the Faculty of Health Studies asks applicants whose first language is not English for IELTS Academic, with results received by the 1 May Year 2 deadline.

Graduate

The admissions page gives a graduate column in the same table; the 2026-27 graduate calendar adds that individual graduate programmes may require higher scores, set out in each programme section. Cambridge C1 Advanced is marked not applicable for graduate entry, while C2 Proficiency is accepted. The graduate calendar also lists CanTEST (4.5 Reading and Listening, 4.0 Speaking and Writing).
