Tempe, US
Arizona State University
ASU publishes clear minimums at both levels. Undergraduate applicants fall into a general group or one of three higher-requirement groups, and graduate programmes may ask for more or refuse some tests.
-
Boston, Massachusetts, US
Boston University
Undergraduate scores are worded as the level at which applicants are most competitive, apart from IELTS 7 which the page says meets the requirement for every programme. Graduate English rules are set by each school or programme; only the Questrom full-time MBA page was found and recorded.
-
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US
Carnegie Mellon University
Undergraduate scores are stated as requirements and are among the highest in this set. Graduate English rules are set by each department; only the Tepper full-time MBA page was found and recorded, where figures are recommendations.
-
New York, US
Columbia University
Figures here are for Columbia College and Columbia Engineering first-year entry only. Columbia's graduate schools set their own English rules and their pages could not be fetched. Applicants can meet the English requirement without an exam in some cases, including a high SAT or ACT reading score.
-
Coventry, UK
Coventry University
Coventry lists its entry requirements by the applicant's country, with English scores inside each country entry, and warns that individual courses may ask for more. Recruitment from Pakistan is shown as paused, so no entry is listed for it.
-
Montreal, Canada
McGill University
Undergraduate TOEFL minimums depend on the faculty (three groups); other tests share one set of minimums. Graduate admission accepts only TOEFL, IELTS or a McGill certificate: Duolingo and PTE are explicitly not accepted, and departments may ask for more.
-
Melbourne, Australia
Monash University
Monash publishes one set of minimum English test scores on its admissions page and says some courses have higher requirements, shown on the course page. The page presents tests as a route for applicants who lack other English evidence, and some may need faculty approval.
-
Boston, US
Northeastern University
Northeastern publishes no undergraduate minimum scores; it gives the middle 50 per cent range of admitted students instead. Graduate minimums depend on the college and are not on the central graduate page.
-
West Lafayette, Indiana, US
Purdue University
Purdue publishes one set of undergraduate scores, one set for graduate admission through its graduate school, and a separate, higher set for the Daniels School one-year MBA. Many graduate programmes ask for more than the graduate school minimum.
-
Melbourne, Australia
RMIT University
RMIT publishes one score table for undergraduate, postgraduate and research study with five levels, from IELTS 6.5 up to IELTS 8.0 with no band below 8.0, plus a separate table for foundation and vocational study. Each course page states which level applies.
-
Sydney, Australia
UNSW Sydney
UNSW sets scores in a grid by faculty and level (undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, postgraduate research), with named programme exceptions that need more. For double degrees across faculties, the higher requirement applies. TOEFL is accepted only as the 'TOEFL for Australia' version.
-
Edmonton, Canada
University of Alberta
Both levels use one university-wide chart. Undergraduate applicants may also need a separate spoken English test for Education and some Health Science programmes. Graduate departments can ask for more than the school-wide minimum.
