Auburn University: English test requirements
The Graduate School sets one central set of English minimums for TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo, and some departments ask for more. The undergraduate international page still lists retired TOEFL formats with no new-scale scores, so undergraduate figures are not recorded here.
Checked on 2 Nov 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

Graduate
Graduate School minimums for all international applicants; some departments ask for higher scores. Unofficial scores can be self-reported when applying, but the application is not considered until an official score arrives. Applicants with a previous degree from a regionally accredited US institution may not need a test, and other exemptions are considered case by case based on the official government language and medium of instruction. International graduate teaching assistants must separately show speaking skills (TOEFL speaking 4.5 on the new scale or 23 on the old scale, IELTS speaking 7, DET speaking 130, or iTEP speaking 4.5).

Admissions tests
SAT / ACT · First-year applicants (including international freshmen)
Required
ACT or SAT scores are needed for a complete freshman application and must be sent directly by the testing agency. The international page also says the ACT or SAT is required of all international freshmen.
“Auburn University requires that a student must have ACT or SAT scores on file to have a complete application.”
Other tests the university lists
- iTEP speaking section (graduate teaching assistant speaking check only, taken at Auburn)
“Not on the list” means the test does not appear on the university page we checked. It does not mean the test is refused: the course page or the admissions office may still accept it, so ask them.
