University of Texas at Arlington: English test requirements

UTA publishes TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo minimums for international undergraduate and graduate applicants. The only undergraduate difference is the Duolingo score for engineering majors, and each graduate department sets its own admission requirements.

Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

Central minimums are listed, but each academic department sets its own admission requirements, so check the programme page. Official scores must come from the testing agency unless the applicant holds a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited US institution.

Duolingo English Test 100 AcceptedThe page says this applies to academic programmes requiring a TOEFL iBT score of 79.

“Each academic department sets its own admissions requirements and makes independent admission decisions.”

Admissions tests

SAT / ACT · First-year applicants

Optional

SAT and ACT scores are not required for an admission decision but can help with admission, testing exemptions and scholarships. The page lists GPA-based guaranteed admission with optional minimum scores for some GPA ranges (1130 SAT or 23 ACT for GPAs of 3.0 to 3.24; 1250 SAT or 26 ACT for 2.90 to 2.99). The page does not give separate rules for named cycles.

“UTA is currently test optional, therefore SAT and ACT scores are not required for an admissions decision.”

Source page

“Not on the list” means the test does not appear on the university page we checked. It does not mean the test is refused: the course page or the admissions office may still accept it, so ask them.
