Toronto Metropolitan University: English test requirements
Undergraduate minimums come in two groups (Engineering and most Science programmes, then everything else) and are overall scores only, with no band minimums. Graduate study has a general requirement plus five higher or lower programme groups, again as overall scores.
Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.
Applicants from Nigeria
Nigeria is on the undergraduate list of exempt countries and territories; four years of full-time high school study there can remove the test requirement. Pakistan and India are not on that list. The page says: “You aren't required to provide English language test results if you have completed 4 years of full-time study at the high school level in one of the following countries/territories:”

The page says requirements reflect overall scores and there are no minimum requirements for band scores; it adds that they are subject to change and a guideline only. Applicants who need a test must also present a senior-level English course. For fall 2027 the test score deadline is 1 April 2027. TOEFL is given for tests before and on or after 21 January 2026; institution code 0886.

The table (last updated 21 October 2026 on the page) gives overall scores for the general requirement and five programme groups; no section scores are printed. TOEFL iBT scores are printed as, for example, 93 followed by (5) in brackets; the page does not label the bracketed figure. Test scores must be within the last 24 months. The page warns that meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission and programmes may set additional requirements. An exemption needs two or more years of full-time university study taught in English, or a graduate degree from such a university, shown by a statement from the registrar's office.
