De Montfort University: English test requirements

DMU states IELTS requirements by subject area on its country-by-country entry requirements pages (the same wording repeats for each country), and converts IELTS 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 into other tests on a separate accepted-tests page. The accepted-tests page shows older and newer TOEFL scales side by side and its figures look dated, so check the course page.

Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

Applicants from Nigeria

WAEC at grade 6 or above and NECO at C6 or above are also accepted (stated in the Nigeria postgraduate English section). The page says: “We also accept WAEC (Grade 6 or above) and NECO (C6 or above)”

Applicants from Pakistan

The Pakistan entry uses the same IELTS wording as other countries; no pause, restriction or Pakistan-specific English route was found.

Applicants from India

The India entry uses the same IELTS wording as other countries; no Indian board route or pause was found.

Four subject groups, each with an IELTS overall range. The tests page converts only IELTS 6.0 (5.5 in each component) and IELTS 6.5 (6.0 in each component); it gives no conversion for IELTS 7.0 or above, so those rows state the 6.5 conversion only..
