Emory University: English test requirements
Emory does not use strict English score cutoffs for first-year applicants; it prints expected scores and says they are not strict. Graduate English requirements are set by each programme through the Laney Graduate School.
Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

The page lists expected scores and says they are not strict cutoffs. An English test is needed only if the applicant does not meet one of the listed alternatives: SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 700 or higher, ACT English 30 or higher, or four years of schooling in English. Only one test needs to be submitted.

The scores for this level are set course by course. The tests below are the ones the university lists; check the exact scores on your course page (course finder).

Optional
Applicants who choose to submit scores may self-report or send official SAT or ACT scores. The page says Emory is test optional for the 2026-2027 application cycle.
“Emory University is test optional for first-year students who would start in fall 2027.”
Other tests the university lists
- TOEFL ITP
- TOEFL ITP Plus (Mainland China only)
- SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 700+ or ACT English 30+ in place of a test
- InitialView interview (supplement only, does not replace a test)
“Not on the list” means the test does not appear on the university page we checked. It does not mean the test is refused: the course page or the admissions office may still accept it, so ask them.
