University of Bristol: English test requirements

Bristol gives every course an English language profile (A to G) and the course page names it; the profile pages cover undergraduate and postgraduate study together, with separate undergraduate and postgraduate figures only where stated (Profile B). Duolingo is not listed on any profile page. Profiles A and B sit at the top; most science and engineering degrees sit in Profile E.

Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

Postgraduate taught

The same profiles apply; each programme page names its profile. Profile B has separate undergraduate and postgraduate scores (postgraduate shown here); the other profiles give one set for both. The School of Law page says all its postgraduate taught programmes need IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 in all bands, which it calls Profile B.
