University of Westminster: English test requirements

Westminster states every requirement as an IELTS level (6.0, 6.5 or 7.0) and converts each level into other tests on one page; the course page says which level applies. The page says several things changed for September 2026 entry.

Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

Applicants from India

Standard XII English can replace a test: 70% or above from CBSE or the Maharashtra board, 75% from a list of other state boards (Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal). Valid if awarded within 8 years of the course start. The page says: “We may also accept high XII scores in English from selected boards”

Applicants from Nigeria

WAEC grade C6 or above is accepted as equal to IELTS 6.0 and 6.5, valid within 5 years and checked through the WAEC portal. A degree from a recognised Nigerian university may be accepted for most postgraduate programmes. The university does not accept medium of instruction letters except under its stated conditions. The page says: “University of Westminster accepts WAEC for EB2 with a minimum score of C6 (as equivalent to IELTS 6.0 and IELTS 6.5).”

Applicants from Pakistan

The Pakistan page sends applicants to the main page for English requirements; no Pakistan-specific test rule or pause was found.

Postgraduate (Master's)

The page gives Master's degrees as 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.0 in writing and says many courses set specific component scores; the conversion rows below use the 6.5 with 6.0 in each component level. Research degrees (MPhil/PhD) ask for 6.5 with 6.0 in each component, and some ask for 7.0; the research pages hold those scores.
