University of Florida: English test requirements

UF prints one set of English minimums for graduate applicants (TOEFL and IELTS only, applied across the university, with programmes free to ask for more). The first-year international page names no English test at all; the only undergraduate scores we could find are on the transfer page. UF requires an SAT, ACT or CLT result from every first-year applicant.

Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

Undergraduate (Transfer applicants)

These scores are printed on the transfer applicant page only. The first-year international page does not name an English test or a score, so first-year minimums are not confirmed here. Scores are valid for two years and must be sent electronically by the test provider. English can also be shown by one full academic year of degree-seeking study at an accredited US college, or in a country where English is the only official language. TOEFL is printed with no new-scale figure.

Graduate

Minimum acceptable scores for all international graduate applicants. Exemptions can apply to applicants from countries where English is the only official language, who studied at a non-US institution taught only in English, or who earned a US degree, at the discretion of the academic department. UF does not accept scores combined from multiple tests. Programmes that require the GRE also ask for a verbal GRE of at least 140. TOEFL is printed with no scale name.

GMAT / GRE · Full-time MBA

Full-time MBA applicants must submit a test score. The page says GMAT is preferred and GRE scores are also reviewed.

Other tests the university lists

  • TOEFL paper-based test (transfer applicants, 550)
  • One year of degree-seeking study in the US or in a country where English is the only official language

“Not on the list” means the test does not appear on the university page we checked. It does not mean the test is refused: the course page or the admissions office may still accept it, so ask them.
