University of Utah: English test requirements

The admissions office prints one English table for all applicant types: TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo, plus SAT or ACT English for first-year and readmitted applicants only. PTE is not on the list.

Checked on 31 Oct 2026 against the university's own pages. Universities change their requirements, and some courses ask for more. Always confirm on the university's page before you book a test or apply.

A score is required for applicants from non-accredited U.S. high schools, home schools, or those with a GED or HiSET. Others who mark yes on the Common App have 30 days after applying to send scores.

“For all other applicants, ACT or SAT score submission is optional.”

Other tests the university lists

  • TOEIC (Asia Campus applicants only)
  • Three years of B- or higher grades in non-ESL English classes at a U.S. regionally accredited high school
  • Degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution within the past two years

“Not on the list” means the test does not appear on the university page we checked. It does not mean the test is refused: the course page or the admissions office may still accept it, so ask them.
